    Diving Expedition Turns Deadly

As reported by Local 10 News, two men drowned after exploring a cave in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Park north of Tampa Bay. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office released detailed information about the search and rescue involving the divers, including that there may have been a malfunction with one of their air tanks.

The sheriff was notified of the diving accident by teenagers that called about a possible drowning. The teens had witnessed the divers conversing at the surface before deciding to continue their exploration of the cave system. Sheriff updates about the incident note that the teens heard one of the divers mention a possible leak in their air tank before re-submerging.

A short time later, a diver surfaced facedown. The sheriff’s department pulled him from the water, but he was deceased on their arrival. The other diver was located by members of the International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery (IUCRR) over 130 feet below the surface.

    Investigation into Dive Accident Ongoing

The investigation into the dive accident is ongoing. It is unclear whether an equipment malfunction, inexperience, or another factor caused the tragedy. In diving expedition accidents, as with boating accidents, there may be one or more parties that can be held liable depending on the cause.

It is essential to consult with an attorney as soon as possible after any accident on the water that results in injury or death. There is only a limited amount of time to file a lawsuit based on personal injury or wrongful death. Filing a claim for damages beyond the statute of limitations could result in your case being denied or dismissed.
