Katherine is an associate attorney at Mase Seitz Briggs, with a focus on civil litigation in the context of maritime disputes. Prior to joining the firm, Katherine worked as an Assistant Public Defender in Miami-Dade for three years, where she fought on behalf of hundreds of indigent clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges. As an Assistant Public Defender, she represented her clients at every stage of the criminal proceedings from First Appearance through trial.
Katherine’s passion for litigation started in college where she joined the University of Florida’s “Litigators.” As a member of the undergraduate mock trial team, she competed and coached in competitions across the country. Her experience with the Litigators honed her public speaking and analytical skills, while solidifying her interest in litigation.
Following college, Katherine worked as a legal assistant at an insurance defense firm in Orlando. There, she gained valuable insight into the inner workings of both state and federal insurance defense claims. In her two years as a legal assistant, she learned the importance of organization and meticulous attention to detail. It also reaffirmed her resolve to become an attorney.
Katherine moved to Miami in 2019 to attend Florida International University College of Law. There, she took courses such as Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Advocacy with Professor H.T. Smith to further develop her litigation skills. She was also member of FIU Law’s Trial Team, where she had to adapt to a remote hybrid competition format due to COVID-19 restrictions. While in law school, Katherine also became a Certified Legal Intern with the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, where she conducted legal research and attended felony depositions.
In her free time, Katherine enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her sister, Gina, and her cat, Princess Mia.
