Our client took his boat to a well known, national boat company’s repair shop for facility maintenance in Miami, Florida. When he paid his bill, he noticed two unusual “add-on” charges: one for an “environmental fee” and another for “shop supplies”. Both these charges were merely additional profit centers for the repair shop. A class action under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act was brought and the class was certified. The defendant settled giving all class members a credit for the charges.
