September: Boating Accident at Oleta River State Park

On September 14, a boating accident turned deadly near Oleta River State Park in North Miami. According to WSVN 7 News, one person died at the scene, and one was transported to a nearby hospital. The cause of the accident is unknown. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.

September: Fishing Boat Accident on the Great Miami River 

Three people, including a child, were thrown overboard while fishing in the Great Miami River earlier this month. The boating accident occurred at night when their vessel collided with a fixed object. Two people wearing life jackets were found walking along the river while another man’s body was recovered from the river the following day, as reported by WHIO.

May: Boating Collision Near Mashta Point

According to the Miami Herald, three people were injured after two boats collided near Mashta Point in Key Biscayne. The boating accident occurred in May and left one woman in critical condition. A child was also injured and taken to the hospital as a result of the crash.

May: Boating Collision Near Miami Beach

In May, a 28-year-old was killed in a tragic boating collision near Miami Beach. The young man was ejected when the boat he was a passenger on crashed into another boat close to Star Island. Another person was transported to the hospital with injuries connected to the accident, as reported by WSVN. The driver of the boat initially fled the scene but was caught by authorities. He was arrested on multiple charges, including boating under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, and manslaughter.

February: Boating Collision in the Keys

An 18-year-old Miami-Dade senior was killed when the boat he was a passenger in struck a channel marker in the Keys. The collision caused the youth and two other people to be thrown off of the boat. The senior suffered “fatal injuries to his lower body,” according to NBC Miami.

January: Personal Watercraft & Boating Collision

A 21-year-old man saved the life of a person thrown from his personal watercraft after being hit by a fishing boat. The yacht deckhand jumped into action after watching the accident unfold. The victim was unconscious, ultimately suffering from fractured vertebrae and a 10-centimeter gash, as reported by CBS Miami.
