Coronavirus Cases at Miami-Dade County Public Schools
Confirmed coronavirus cases among students and staff have increased significantly since December, with over 1,100 cases being reported from January 4 to January 15, 2021. The district is comprised of nearly 400 schools and home to 345,000 students, making it the fourth largest school district in the United States.
According to the Miami-Dade Public Schools Coronavirus (COVID-19) Dashboard:
- There have been more than 5,300 positive cases since October 5, 2020.
- Of those cases, more than 1,600 are self-reported cases by employees and more than 3,000 are students
- From January 4 to February 2, 2021 there have been more than 2,000 positive cases.
- Of those cases, more than 400 are self-reported cases by employees and more than 1,500 are students
The pandemic has had far-reaching implications for students throughout the country. Widespread, free testing may help to pinpoint outbreaks among our younger populations. Through testing, it may be possible to reduce the spread as we all wait for the vaccine and for its effects to take place.
