Miami Tourist Boarded Charter Vessel Before Going Missing

    Charter Accident Tragedy

According to CBS Miami, the body of Latrell Harris was spotted in the water near Miami Marine Stadium by a “good samaritan.” The devastating discovery comes after an extensive search by the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Harris was reportedly aboard a charter vessel when he went missing.

Reports indicate that the charter crew confirmed the tourist was present via a pre-departure head count. It is unclear precisely what happened, but someone noticed his absence “near the Southeast point of Brickell Key.”

A land and water search was commenced, but his body was not found until several days later. The details of his disappearance are unknown; it is believed, however, that he fell overboard.

    Dangers to Miami Tourists

Visitors to the South Florida coast often seek water excursions during their vacation. Dinner cruises, marine tours, and other sightseeing expeditions are extremely popular. Unfortunately, they can be dangerous to unsuspecting tourists.

When someone is injured or killed because of a captain’s or crewmember’s negligence, inexperience, or wrongdoing, the charter company may be liable. If you are involved in a charter boat accident, it is generally in your best interest to consult with an attorney about your right to compensation.

Holding Parties Accountable for Their Wrongdoing

Depending on the circumstances of the case, the boat operator or owner may be financially liable for injuries that occur because of negligence or wrongful conduct. A poorly trained captain or crew can be disastrous for passengers aboard a vessel. In addition, inadequate boat maintenance, unsecured equipment, or a lack of property safety gear can also have dire consequences.

Charter boat owners owe passengers a duty to provide a seaworthy vessel. They must operate and maintain the vessel in a reasonably safe condition for its intended purpose. Failure to do so can result in liability if someone is injured or killed.
